Living Funeral Ceremony with Amanda Tipps
May 19, 2019
The Experience of Dying: East Meets West. Death doulas Emily Cross and Jill Schock offer a historical and experiential living funeral ceremony based on South Korean and American death practices.
What is a living funeral? Why are they important?
The idea behind the living funeral is for participants to gain acceptance and closure about their own death. A living funeral can be offered in the form of a ceremony, in which healthy individuals are guided through an experiential visualization. It can also mean having an actual funeral, in which a dying person attends their own wake, or party, with their chosen loved ones. Choosing to participate in a living funeral is a meaningful and transformative experience that encourages people to celebrate their life instead of living in fear of death.
